Let’s face it: garden hoses are not exactly a riveting topic. But even if you do have a professional tending to most of your lawn and landscaping needs, owning (at least) one hose is still necessary. The old adage goes,”anything worth doing is worth doing right.” In that spirit, we’ve done some research for you, to determine your best buy for the highest quality when it comes to garden hoses.

While there are probably more categories of garden hoses than you would think- or even care to read about, we’ve simplified the topic, and broken this article down into the two most important groups: expandable and non-expandable hoses.

With the advent of flexible hoses, why would you chose an “old-fashioned” one that…isn’t? The truth is, with the materials used these days, they are simply more likely to last longer.

This farm and ranch hose is a rubber/vinyl blend that’s been tested for 500PSI, and has a lifetime guarantee. While modern tech hasn’t drastically upgraded its design, it has allowed the manufacturers to both test and guarantee its durability.
This commercial grade rubber hose has a slightly lower PSI threshold than the previous option (360, to be exact), but we really like that it’s reinforced with nylon. And just like its counterpart, it comes with a lifetime warranty and a guarantee to endure a broad range of weather conditions.
This stainless steel hose is lightweight, durable, and wonderfully weatherproof. What’s more, it includes a brass nozzle that allows you to adjust water pressure without adding an attachment.
This drinking-safe water hose is made from polyurethane, which makes it both durable and drinkable. It promises not to kink, and it provides incredibly pure water for your yard, garden, and above-ground pool.

Expandable Hoses

For smaller yards, or simply those with a bit less foot traffic, these guys make it incredibly easy to water the garden without creating a tangled mess. If you’ve ever unraveled 200 feet of hose- with one bit wrapped around a tree, and another bit somehow caught in your deck railing- you know the hassle we’re referring to.

Flexible garden hoses do away with all of that drama. They’re flexible when you need to reach the back corners of your garden, yet they easily retract when you’re ready to put them away. Every supplier imaginable has capitalized on this design, so it can be cumbersome to sort out which ones are best.

We’ve done some homework for you:

This durable fabric hose will also stretch its coiled length, and comes with a 7-setting nozzle. It’s reinforced with latex on the interior, and also comes with a 1 year guarantee.
This super strong reinforced hose has 4 layers of latex to ensure durability. It’s nozzle has 10 settings, and it includes a splitter with dual shut-off valves. Add to that the brass rust-free fittings, and it’s a winner.
This short but solid hose is great for smaller yards. It expands from 8 to 25 feet with a triple layer of latex for reinforcement. No bells or whistles here, but it’s a great price and can also be bought at 25, 50, and 100 feet.
