Lawn Mushroom Killer – Steps to Eliminate Lawn Mushrooms

One of the primary reasons for maintaining your lawn is that you want a remarkable spot to relax and bond with your family. But, how can this be possible if mushrooms are pestering your lawn?

Lawn mushrooms are considered to be one of the most common landscaping problems. Even if you put in your best effort for nice-looking grass, you could end up with mushrooms, and become frustrated.

When you plan to eliminate the lawn mushrooms, you need to understand what causes them to grow. These types of mushrooms commonly like a shaded, organic waste, and damp environment. Drainage issues can also contribute to mushroom growth.

Fortunately there are several ways you can kill lawn mushrooms effectively.

REMOVE THE LAWN MUSHROOMS FROM THE GROUND

As soon as you notice mushroom caps, immediately remove them from the ground. When untreated, they release spores, which spread and grow more mushrooms.

After you have successfully removed the mushrooms, never directly put them into the compost pile. Place them in a plastic bag, tie up the bag tightly, and toss it into your trashcan. This will prevent the mushrooms from spreading across the lawn.

USE SOAP AND WATER

A soap and water mixture is an effective mushroom killer. Use about two to three tablespoons of dish soap with two gallons of water. Using your garden tools, poke holes into the soil around the mushrooms and fill with the soapy water.

APPLY NITROGEN FERTILIZER

Nitrogen fertilizer is another lawn mushroom killer that you can consider. This removes the matter the mushrooms feed off of. For every 1000 sq. ft. of lawn, use one pound of nitrogen fertilizer. For best results, add some potassium and phosphorus. Contact professional help to properly fertilize your lawn if needed.

TRIM DOWN THE TREE BRANCHES

Since lawn mushrooms thrive in shady environments, trim down the tree branches to minimize shade. You can do this effectively by cutting close to the trunk and not leaving stubs. Angle the cut down to prevent a hole from collecting rainwater. Also, you can prevent fungus by trimming down the diseased or dead branches.

MAINTAIN PROPER DRAINAGE

A humid and damp environment is prone to lawn mushroom growth. In the case that the lawn is holding too much water, make sure to drain it properly. Adding a water garden or pond to catch the excess water can help you acquire proper drainage, and also add a new decorative feature to the garden.

With the above ideas, it becomes easier for you to kill lawn mushrooms. Always maintain a nice-looking lawn and exert extra effort to eliminate lawn mushrooms as soon as possible.
